SAINT-LUNDI is the name of a popular tradition that dates back to the Middle Ages. It involves voluntarily taking Monday off, sometimes even extending the break over several consecutive days. Over time, this custom evolved into an extension of Sunday rest, fostering socio-political practices such as the refusal of work and the emphasis on the value of leisure and rest. The SAINT-LUNDI project is meant to offer a communal moment of rest through collective naps, guided by soundscapes.
In ancient Greece, a common napping space literally existed in the form of incubation sanctuaries dedicated to the god Asclepius. There, the nap was a collective practice, an experience shared by a community of people in need of healing from various affections. Incubation therapy is based on the deliberate act of sleeping and dreaming together. According to legends and research, this creates a collective healing phenomenon of the group bonded by sleep.
